APO Collection policy

The following collection policy covers the management and reuse of APO metadata and full text content. It has been revised based on the standard format used by the Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR) in order to increase the visibility and impact of repositories around the world.

Data Policy

for full-text and other full data items

  1. Anyone may access the database and most full items free of charge – APO does contain links to some material that requires a fee or subscription to access.
  2. Full items must not be harvested by robots except transiently for full-text indexing or citation analysis
  3. Some full items are individually tagged with different rights permissions and conditions
  4. This repository is primarily an online digital library and occasionally a publisher
  5. APO metadata is provided under a CC By Licence
  6. Anyone may access the metadata free of charge
  7. The metadata may be re-used in any medium without prior permission for not-for-profit purposes or commercial purposes provided:
    • a link to the original metadata record or full text item hosted on APO is provided
    • APO is ackowedged as the source of the record.

 

Content Policy

    • Special materials: Application to public interest and policy issues
  4. Deposited items may include:
    • working drafts
    • submitted versions (as sent to journals for peer-review)
    • accepted versions (author’s final peer-reviewed drafts)
    • published versions (publisher-created files)

Submission Policy

concerning depositors, quality & copyright

  1. Depositors must include minimum bibliographic metadata for all their publications
  2. The administrator only vets items for the eligibility of authors/depositors, relevance to the scope of APO, valid layout & format, and the exclusion of spam
  3. The validity and authenticity of the content of submissions is the sole responsibility of the depositor
  4. No embargo policy defined
  5. Any copyright violations are entirely the responsibility of the authors/depositors

Preservation Policy

  1. Items will be retained indefinitely
  2. APO regularly backs up its files according to current best practice
  3. Items may be removed at the request of the author/copyright holder, but this is strongly discouraged
  4. Acceptable reasons for withdrawal include:
    • Journal publishers’ rules
    • Proven copyright violation or plagiarism
    • Legal requirements and proven violations
    • National Security
    • Falsified research
  5. No deletion method for withdrawn items defined
  6. URLs will continue to point to ‘tombstone’ citations, to avoid broken links and to retain item histories, with:
    • a link to a replacement version, where available
  7. If necessary, an updated version may be deposited
    • The item’s persistent URL will always link to the latest version
  8. In the event of APO being closed down, the database will be transferred to another appropriate archive
